Title of the Innovation: Induction of Color to Fibroin through Biological System in Silkworm - Bombyx Mori
Brief About Innovation
The technology pertains to the production of colored mulberry silk through a natural process. The color of the silk is retained in the fibroin even after degumming through various methods.
The fifth instar mulberry silkworms are fed with different non-toxic organic bio-pigments (at various doses). Color induction is confirmed by dissecting the fifth instar larvae and examining the presence of pigment in the middle and posterior silk gland. After obtaining the colored cocoons, they were subjected to post-cocoon processing, degumming by various methods and weaving of fabric. It has been proven that the colored silk produced by the silkworm, retains the same color even after all these processing methods.
