Title of the Innovation: PVC STANDS FOR REARING YOUNG-AGE SILKWORM REARING (CHAWKI REARING STANDS
Brief About Innovation
In young age (Chawki) silkworm rearing house, most of the farmers use wooden or iron stands for keeping plastic trays. These days, use of wooden stands has reduced due to high cost and scarce availability of quality wood. In case of iron stands they corrode fast as the rearing house and stands are disinfected after each crop. To avoid corrosion, the iron stands should be painted periodically. Though iron stands are durable, their cost has gone up considerably due to steep hike in steel rates. An iron stand for 100 trays would cost around Rs.80-90 thousand. Central Sericultural Research & Training Institute, MYSURU has designed and developed PVC stands, which can replace wooden or iron stands required for young age silkworm rearing houses (Chawki centres) at an economical cost besides many advantages.
